These are photographs of Meteor Crater in Arizona. It is Approximately 4000 feet wide and 170 feet deep. If it were to be filled, it would require 2.2 billion cubic feet of dirt and stone.
Now imagine this crater is our national debt, the hole Washington has dug for us. Currently the debt stands at $14.2 trillion dollars and the deficit is growing the debt by about $1.7 trillion dollars per year (about 12% every year).
Now imagine this hole growing deeper by 12% every year. This would be equivalent to moving 34,163 truck loads of dirt and stone every year out of the hole…Trucks loaded full like the big yellow one pictured at the right.
This would be comparable to what Washington’s annual deficit spending is compared to the national debt. In other words Washington is digging our debt hole bigger by 12% every year.
Here is the funny part (or not so funny)….
Obama and the Democrats are proposing to cut spending this year by $4.7 billion dollars. Sounds great until you go back to our big yellow truck over there. Cutting the spending by this paltry amount is like, instead of digging the hole deeper by 34,163 truck loads every year, we would be digging it deeper by 34,073 truck loads every year...Only 90 truck loads less!
It is amazing how ridiculous the effort is in Washington to reverse our debt situation. One thing for sure if they keep digging, eventually they will be in China....and if you think about it, I guess they already are!
We hear all the time, millions, billions and trillions. This is a great way to actually "see" the problem!
